mushroom At Long Ridge Farms, our focus is on more than Christmas trees. We believe in being good stewards of the land and sharing this uniquely diverse environment with others.

Environmental education and interpretive displays are now part of the Bear Wallow experience. School-aged children and their family members will enjoy learning more about Fraser fir Christmas trees, but will also have the opportunity to discover other aspects of the ecology of our forested communities here in the beautiful N.C. mountains.

Fraser Firs and Forest Friends

Our education programs are designed for small groups of 10-12, tailored for 4th to 6th graders; however, all ages are welcome. Our half-day programs are held by appointment only in Spring, Summer and Fall. Click here to download our brochure (PDF).

During the holiday season, families are welcome to explore the nature center when they come to choose and cut their Christmas tree. Inside the nature center, you'll find:

  • Displays and interpretive materials on the natural history of Long Ridge, and the Blue Ridge Region, in general (trees, wildflowers, ferns, fungi, insects, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, rocks and more).

  • Activities for the entire family (trivia, microscope activities)

  • A variety of take-home literature

Our Nature Center will be adding new displays, program options, reference materials, a facebook page and web content throughout 2016. For more information, call us at 828-406-8187 or email us.
